a message from TIAM’s Sean Courtney…

It s my turn to take a crack at writing the TIAM newsletter … and
I ll be honest … I rarely stick with anything, so don t be
surprised if this is the last one you ever get from me.

First things first … I hope you guys and girls are getting all of
the TIAM news you need from Facebook and Twitter and cool kids in mall
parking lots, if not, make sure you  like  us on Facebook AND …
and this is the important part … that you click the little thingy
that allows us to show up in your news feed … otherwise you are an
outsider, as far as I am concerned.  AND..please invite your friends
to “like” us AND our bands…you would not believe how much it means
to the bands (and festival organizers, booking agents, and other folks
who are in a position to help indie artists.) Also, it s a good idea
to follow Corey on Twitter.  He is good at it.  I am not.

So … here s today s TIAM news:

The Bohannons recently recorded their second Daytrotter session.  I
assume you ve all heard it…and once it is made public, I assume you
will have downloaded it, streamed it, woven it into the fabric of your life.  It s pretty dang amazing and I can t believe that Iowa is still standing.

Hurray for the Riff Raff put out a beautiful album called MY DEAREST
DARKEST NEIGHBOR with us (and our pals Mod Mobilian … who you need to know.)  It is a haunting collection of covers ranging from Hank to
Lucinda to George Harrison and Townes Van Zandt.  Be sure to grab it .
. . it looks to be their last indie release, as they recently announced that their next record will be released by ATO Records …which is still pretty awesome. Also: THESE SHOWS ARE SELLING OUT. Buy tickets early.

Glossary had to cancel their summer fall tour plans due to E-Z-Eric
Giles requiring shoulder surgery.  You can send him get wells at his
house, because he doesn’t do the Facebook thing.

The Pollies and Chris Porter of Some Dark Holler are getting ready to
release an EP full of music that I can only describe as  not shiny,
not happy” and damn good.  I think the working title is the Divorce
EP.  No promises.

Tedo Stone is still out touring behind his debut full length GOOD GO
BAD, with a new band featuring District Attorney Frank Keith, IV and
Clay Houle.  Tedo also recorded a Daytrotter session and has been
giving some nice notice from the blogosphere … don t believe me?
Google it.

Bonnie Whitmore is still road-warrioring her backside off.  After
having conquered the Pacific Northwest and Canada, she is coming back
into the deep South, the East Coast and the Mid-West this summer.  I m
telling y’all:  this album is so ridiculously good.  Some Dark Holler
has been supporting her on many of these dates and Helen has been
pulling double-duty as the hardest working fiddle player in America.

If you missed Secret Stages in Birmingham that means you missed
Dorado, Cosmonaut on Vacation, Through the Sparks and Tedo Stone. You lost.

Great Peacock also has a busy summer/fall planned with shows all over
the southland, including a stop at the Fall 280 Boogie at Standard
Deluxe on September 28th. I’ll be there. Tickets are available now.

Magnolia Mountain has recently put out BELOVED, available for
download, on CD or on vinyl via This Is American Music.  Mark Utley
and the rest of the MM ers are going to be all over Cincinnati and
Newport, Kentucky for the next couple of months.  Please go see them.

Joey Kneiser of Glossary and Drew Beskin of the District Attorneys are
teaming up for a two man intimate showcase tour.  Details to follow.

If you haven t heard hot-off-the-press new releases from Doc Feldman &
the LD50  (SUNDOWNING AT THE STATION) and Kent Goolsby (TROPHIES OF YOUTH) you re missing out.  Doc is the perfect late night listen for fans ofJason Molina, Richard Buckner, Will Oldham and Will Johnson.  Kent might have just put out his finest record yet, reminding me of John Prine, JJ Cale and The Band in all the feel-good ways.  You can, of course, download both of these from TIAM.  No tour news as of yet.

We will have some new (to you , possibly) District Attorneys outtakes
available next week…LIGHT YEARS/IN YOUR DREAMS…find it at TIAM,
itunes, Spotify, wherever (actually…just TIAM…check it here.)

On the horizon, TIAM will be releasing the latest Have Gun Will Travel
(FICTION, FACT OR FOLKTALE…available as a download, CD or VINYL!) on September 10, 2013 … so be ready for that…it’s a great record,
and long-time fans should expect no less. We will also be re-releasing
The Kernal’s FAREWELLHELLO and Elliott “Dexateen” McPheerson’s DESTROY ME this fall…and possibly some other new jams.

I’d also be remiss if I did not wish our friends at Green Olive Media
a happy 15th anniversary. They have always been supporters of the TIAM
and other great things everywhere…and Great Peacock will be playing
their anniversary party next weekend in Atlanta.
