thepollies:

We’ve got a busy weekend ahead, and hopefully you can be a part of it!First off, we’ll be playing at Furniture Factory in Huntsville, AL this Friday night (04/12).  We’ll start around 8:30 and we’re gonna play for a good while.  Come hear some favorites, some of our favorites— and maybe a surprise or two.  This is our first Huntsville show in a good bit, so we’re pleased to head down 72 to see you guys.SATURDAY:  We will begin the day at the Alabama Chicken & Egg Festival in Moulton, AL.  Our set begins at 1:00PM.  There are tons of great bands on the bill, including friends like Jason Isbell, Pine Hill Haints and Fiddleworms.  If you are in North or Central Alabama, this would be an excellent way to spend your Saturday… and it’s only $5!
After our set is finished there, we’re gonna bolt on down to Mobile for the SouthSounds Music Festival.  This will be our second year to do this, and we’re thrilled to continue to be a part of this special event.  We will be doing two shows this year— one at 9PM at Malaga Inn (we’re splitting this show with Belle Adair) and then again at MIDNIGHT at Alabama Music Box.  Trust us, Gulf Coasters…. you do not want to miss it!It’s gonna be a busy weekend, but that’s how we do it.  Hope to see you out!

The Pollies are beating ass in Alabama all weekend…better get on the bus.

This Is American Music’s own, Sean Courtney weighs in with all of the possible info that you may need for the Old 280 Boogie 4/20/13 @ Standard Deluxe in Waverly, Alabama.

The Completely Unofficial 13th Annual Old 280 Boogie Survival GuideAs a first-timer to the Boogie, you may be wondering what you’ve managed to get yourself into…so let me tell you: an incredible spring day in Waverly, Alabama full of the finest people you will ever want to know, great music ranging from rock to country blues to soul, BBQ and other tasty treats, and organic art everywhere. I can’t aptly describe how much I love the boogie and why I pack up my family and make the six hour drive from south Mississippi every year to return…but I always do it, and every year, I seem to recruit more and more first-timers. This year is no different, so I thought I’d do Scott a solid and throw some thoughts together. Here are some nuts and bolts before I get to the good stuff. The Boogie is held at Standard Deluxe at 1015 Mayberry Street in beautiful downtown Waverly, Alabama. The gates will open at 10:30 and the music will start at 11:00 and should wind up around 7:00. My advice? Get there and be ready at 10:30. Remember that Auburn is having its Spring Game on April 20th, also…so allow yourself a little extra traffic time. You will want to be able to park nearby and don’t want to miss a minute. The number of tickets has been limited to 1,500. If you haven’t bought them yet, you better do it now! Don’t expect to be able to buy them at the event…and as always…kids under 14 are admitted for free with an adult. Advance tickets are available here:http://waverlyboogie.bpt.me/My quick advice: Enjoy yourself. Be kind to others. Smile. Wear sunscreen. Bring a poncho…or better yet…don’t…if it rains, you’ll be ok. Take a look around…take a walk around. Visit strangers. Bring a flashlight or lantern…it will be dark when it is time to pack up and go home. Finally…let me drop some rules on you…yes…there are rules…we are trying to have a society, here, people. We all love dogs…nobody more than Scott Peek, but please leave your pets at home. Unless they are registered service dogs, they will not be permitted entry. Also, smoking is permitted in designated areas ONLY this year, and yes: I know this is a new rule, but I hope everyone can agree that it’s a good one. Also…feel free to bring an ice chest full of your favorite drinks…but remember that there is no glass allowed at the Boogie…canned drinks and plastic bottles only. There will be portolets available, one of which is handicap accessible. There will be police and fire and rescue officials on site in case of an emergency. Parking is always kind of crazy…it is street parking only and I would remind everyone not to block roads or driveways…and it seems odd to have to remind people this, but apparently it has to be done: there is no parking permitted in the cemetery.Scott Peek and the staff and volunteers of Standard Deluxe do an incredible job of opening their arms and welcoming everyone. As I mentioned, ice chests are permitted, as are blankets, hula hoops, folding chairs, and just about everything else…you can even bring in a bucket of day old chicken…but don’t fill up. There will be top-of-the-line food vendors there to please every palette, including:* Johnny Brusco’s Pizza * Taqueria Durango* Wilton’s Catering * The Overall Company* Jim ‘N Nicks BBQ * Mama Mocha’s Coffee Emporium* Marble Slab Ice CreamThe music is the main draw for so many people, including myself. This year’s roster is incredible and if you have never seen the Screaming Eagle of Soul, Charles Bradley, I strongly urge you to prepare yourself for transfiguration. I’ve picked a few tracks from this year’s line-up and made a handy little Spotify playlist here:http://open.spotify.com/user/sean.courtney/playlist/2w69B1ytwhFJ5QTashDo1Land if you want to dig deeper, here are the full albums from this year’s participating musicians:http://open.spotify.com/user/sean.courtney/playlist/65v5iu0PQTED8jXI9cJorMThe full line-up is listed below…and folks, please bring your wallets…you’re going to want to buy shirts and CDs and vinyl and stickers…and it’s how these folks make a living. I feel like I should add that I’ve seen a lot of these acts before and I think Scott has really outdone himself with the amount of talent that he is bringing to Waverly this year.
