We’ve got a busy weekend ahead, and hopefully you can be a part of it!
First off, we’ll be playing at Furniture Factory in Huntsville, AL this Friday night (04/12). We’ll start around 8:30 and we’re gonna play for a good while. Come hear some favorites, some of our favorites— and maybe a surprise or two. This is our first Huntsville show in a good bit, so we’re pleased to head down 72 to see you guys.
SATURDAY: We will begin the day at the Alabama Chicken & Egg Festival in Moulton, AL. Our set begins at 1:00PM. There are tons of great bands on the bill, including friends like Jason Isbell, Pine Hill Haints and Fiddleworms. If you are in North or Central Alabama, this would be an excellent way to spend your Saturday… and it’s only $5!
After our set is finished there, we’re gonna bolt on down to Mobile for the SouthSounds Music Festival. This will be our second year to do this, and we’re thrilled to continue to be a part of this special event. We will be doing two shows this year— one at 9PM at Malaga Inn (we’re splitting this show with Belle Adair) and then again at MIDNIGHT at Alabama Music Box. Trust us, Gulf Coasters…. you do not want to miss it!
It’s gonna be a busy weekend, but that’s how we do it. Hope to see you out!
The Pollies are beating ass in Alabama all weekend…better get on the bus.

El Cantador - Mobile, AL
El Cantador took residence at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center of Arts and Education in Ocean Springs, MS for a total of six days in May and September of 2012 to work on Translation Wave. With access to the building’s Scharr-Ello studio, performance arts room, and main theater the trio was once again free to explore their sound within high ceilings and stairwells in one of the coast’s most richly and artistically diversified areas. Chris Staples (TwoThirtyEight, Discover America, Telekinesis) was invited in to engineer three of the EPs more percussion oriented tracks (BlackSound, Particle and Wave, Reynosa).
In this new collection of music we find a more intimate, cinematic, and sporadic group of songs. Translation Wave is an expression of how a band can morph and evolve from time on the road and turn to reflect on those experiences through instrumentation. Having already freed themselves of popular expectations on the previous album, El Cantador appears willing and able to take us anywhere at any time without notice. In the EP’s first track, “BlackSound”, the listener is greeted by a sparse and intricately picked out acoustic guitar riff alongside Underwood’s immediate foretelling to “Don’t buy into most of my dreams/I’ll make your head spin with my own disconnectivity” - lyrics which imply Underwood’s satisfaction in playing with language and could serve to intimate the EP’s darker hues and cathartic uplifts. Translation Wave proudly hums with a warmth and rawness akin to older classic albums you might find in your local record bin.
Sean Murphy: Drums/Percussion
Alex Scharr: Bass/Piano/Synths/Vocals
Heath Underwood: Guitar/Vocals/Electric Piano

THIS IS AMERICAN MUSIC AND MOD MOBILIAN RECORDS REISSUE EL CANTADOR’S “FOOLS FOR LIGHT”
Mobile, Alabama’s El Cantador has been churning out tunes since 2007. The band’s core consists of songwriter/guitar player Heath Underwood, Sean Murphy (drums), and Alex Scharr (bass/synth/vocals). The band has self released two EPs, a festival- winning music video, a live disc, and a split EP with Pensacola, FL based band Johnny Apple-Eyes on their own independent record label Friends Fight Records. They’ve garnered a lot of buzz from recent music festivals, including the Hangout Beach and Music Festival (2010),92 Zew’s Second Tuesday Series, Bayfest (2009), Next Big Nashville (2009), and SouthSounds Music Festival (2012) .
“The release of their first full-length album, “Fools for Light,” finds the Mobile trio opening wide their sonic palette with a noticeable emphasis on texture, atmosphere and experimentation — think contemporary New Wave, Broken Social Scene, Philip Glass. The list of influences could go on and on.” - The Sun Herald, Biloxi, MS
For over 3 years, the Mod Mobilian arts and media collective has been working to bring the best art, writing, music and media arts from the Gulf Coast region to a wider audience. Now, its newest arm, Mod Mobilian Records, is teaming with the rapidly growing Southern record label / family / group hug This Is American Music to help expose the Gulf Coast music community to the rest of the world. The collaboration combines Mod Mobilian’s unique position in the Gulf Coast artistic community with TiAM’s expanding footprint in the Southern indie music world. The reissue of “Fools For Light” serves as the opening note for this collaborative effort in advance of the first TiAM / Mod Mobilian joint release, the upcoming El Cantador EP “Translation Wave.”
