13ghosts - Liar’s Melody - cds available w/ download -

Longtime contributors to Birmingham, Alabama’s thriving music scene, 13ghosts entered late 2011 with this Liar’s Melody release. What is perhaps most notable about this record is the staggering range of its tracks—each of its songs ends in a place that seems foreign, yet perfectly fitting for its beginnings. That inter-song diversity is indicative of the fearlessly exploratory spirit with which these Alabama rockers create. 13ghosts of their experiences with a poetic style that resonates, free from pretense, from song to song. That lyrical honesty is enhanced by the band’s musical proficiency, and the result is a deeply layered album of unbelievable complexity and nuance. While previous fans of 13Ghosts will find this album both pleasantly surprising and comfortably familiar, newcomers to the band should actually find much the same—songs that challenge the listener but are sewn in enough common, human soil to be endlessly accessible and enjoyable.
